Hi,
well it's sounds like you have lots of experience - more than I did as a supply . welcome. Some of us are ex-supply, either changed careers or got contracted jobs, but some supplies still around! Lots of support,

Hi SkiTeacher,

i found the work is becoming thin on the ground recently, but there seem to be 1000's of small supply agencies springing up like mushrooms - a regular growth industry - and i wondered if this was having an effect on the job situation, diluting everything down?

also, CRB checks used to be sorted by agencies: now the price for one is shooting up and it is the poor old supply who has to stump up the cash - that's a big change which has come in

any

what the net cost of a CRB check is, please - this is becoming an issue?

thanks,

Hi o1, welcome to the board!

I think a CRB check costs £36, but then there could be an admin charge from the agency.
I've never worked through an agency, so have always had mine through the LEAs, but they take so long to come through (which I think it is a huge issue!) that I've worked in 13 schools without them seeing one!

gosh

i get snooty offices demanding to see 1 year CRB's (mine is 18 months) when all the guidelines suggest a 3 year cycle: why can't Senior Managers just have a computer pin-link to the CRB data base? Schools need up-to-date info on adults working with children, not a piece of paper costing 30-40 quid which is out of date as soon as it is issued: the whole thing is a farce! why on earth can't the DFES sort it out?

no agencies - lucky you

I'd just like to say ditto. I can't understand why there can't be on the spot checks as opposed to a ridiculously expensive piece of paper.

On the spot checks would be more effective too I presume, seeing as the expensive bits of paper are out of date as they're being printed!

Exactly what I think. I mean you could go out that very day and commit an offence which wouldn't necessarily come to light for another 3 years until the next one. Or even longer in certain schools who don't keep theirs up to date for long term staff.
