Smile Just Saying Hello!

Hi everyone
I have been lurking in the background for a while reading your very helpful messages.
I am new to supply and finally after weeks of messing around with paperwork I have my first

sitting at home.

I am so nervous. On Monday I am teaching year 3 in the morning at a school that I visited this morning about a maternity cover job (no pressure then). In the afternoon I am in a different school teaching year 6 (

How do you mark all the work before leaving if you need to dash off at lunch time to another school? I am hoping that the lesson after play requires little marking or that I can do it during the lesson somehow but then does that create the wrong impression?
Any hints or tips gratefully received
Gill

Hello! Welcome, belatedly though it is, to the forum!

Helpful hints: if you have supply booked for half a day, and then a different school wants the other half, let them know that you already have e.g. the morning booked, so you won't be able to get in that early that you'll have time to

y/plan etc., please could you perhaps speak to the teacher the previous day to talk over that afternoon's work; or the afternoon booked, so though you'll get as much of the marking done as you can, please be aware that I must leave at 12:20, so, especially if you have to do break duty, there is a chance that some marking may be left.

These messages to the schools are increasingly important as you go up through KS2 as obviously there's more and more to mark, especially from the morning sessions.

Marking during the lesson shouldn't be seen as bad practice. Really it's a great thing! You give the children instant feedback, they can use it and move on from there straight away, no meaningless message that they'll not bother to try and read this time next week when they have the next RE lesson! You'll be fine, walk round with your biro in hand and tick and comment as you go along. Also, sometimes if we've done lots of chat, if a child has taken more of my time than usual, I'll not mark the book, but simply put 'Verbal feedback given' or something similar.

But the big question, what's your favourite chocolate?!

Seriously, don't spend the whole weekend worrying about this will you?!

Thanks for your advice

The school I'm at in the afternoon know I will be dashing across town to get to them so they are expecting me to be a little late (although I will still be there well before afternoon lessons start) The school I'm at in the morning know I am somewhere else in the afternoon so it should be fine.
Just nervous about the morning as I am applying for a job there and want to make a good impression.

Actually the phone didn't stop ringing yesterday so I now have all day Tuesday with a year 2 class and Thursday pm with year 5 as well as a day next week and the week after. I finally feel useful again.

Won't do much this weekend except pack and repack my bag and try lots of clothes on and decide none of them look right!

As for the chocolate I like it all (probably why I have gained over a stone since September!!!)
have a good weekend
Gill

I can understand how you feel about the morning school! Concentrate on impressing the TA & children, leave the teacher's desk and classroom tidy, mark the books with more than a tick and a good, and you can't go far wrong!

Well my first day of supply over and done with! Phew

Had a great day and loved being back in the classroom.
The year 3 class in the morning was a little challenging but a few names on the warning board and lots of names under the smiley face soon settled them down.

I got to the school in the afternoon ok but the planning left was really hard to follow and most of the sheets or graphs it referred to were missing so had to improvise. Thank goodness they were a delightful class of only 18 year 6 otherwise it could have been disastorous.

Well Year 2 tomorrow and good chance I will have a job starting January but can't say too much
