That depends on the level of education the parents feel they have themselves, and also on the parents' relationships with their children, some do not want to be seen as a teacher, some children will not commit to learning as well with a parent as they would a visiting teacher.

I don't agree at all I'm afraid.

Many parents cannot even help their children with their homework so what hope have they got of covering areas where the children need a boost?

Also, I have many friends (who are teachers or are intelligent people generally) who find it impossible to teach their own children - the children do not react well to their mum/dad telling them how to do things, the parents lose their patience or household tasks take priority.
