for a Celine / Mariah version, just a simple one... do you think they could?

Or should I stick with Away in a Manger?!

Hi Nutty

I'd give them a shot at it, but explain that its a tricky song and if they nail it they're FAB!! Also - if they don't nail it - you can always go back to Away in a Manger without too much practice needed.

Well, got into assembly, and offered it up to y4, 5 & 6 (wasn't going to go down to 4 but there's some fab choral speakers in there at the moment, and a girl who does singing exams!) and 19 kids came to see me at lunchtime... they've picked it up and run away with it.. absolutely amazing! Might just have to turn up to the carol concert at this rate to have tears prick my eyes!

Oh, while you're on the thread Sarah... my town has a Dickensian Christmas Festival 29th/30th Nov... not been yet myself but my parents have come over 4 years running from S Yorks to go... might be worth it if you're in the area... there's stalls, bands, street entertainers etc. apparently... loads of locals dress up in the gear too...

Dear Nutty,

I would think a fairly musical Year 5 class could sing 'O Holy Night' . The only problem might be the very last 'Night' if you go up the o

ave. If you go down instead of up on that note it will be OK. The speed needs to be OK too so that you can sing without having to take lots of breaths. Away In A manger is a great song but most kids eem to learn it when they are reall small and they rather like something else when they get older.

Thanks SusiQ.. they're doing quite well - have met up with them twice, gave the the words and listened to it the first time, and they've all learnt the words off by heart already! Timing's really hard with it, but we've got plenty of time now they know the words (just singing first verse, then chorus twice), and yes, that last octave, we're missing it the first time, then about half are hitting it second time through, so should be nice! Lots of work on dynamics being done tomorrow I feel!
