Default P4C

I just saw Nutcracker has a course on this next week... I'm dying to teach one of these lessons (in a nice class obviously!)

Has anyone had a go? Was doing that sort of thing in circle times with my year 6s years ago, but nothing formal and so structured, just the

s really... Really enjoyed watching the lesson on Teachers' TV whilst I was preparing for my interview.

From my limited experience, HLTAs are taking these sessions in PPA time... no marking, open-ended etc...

Oh OK philosophy for children. Where's the time on the timetabel, I'm in a catholic school, we're supposed to do 2 hours of RE a week, so PSHE and anything else comes under RE for me! I also lose 16 of my class for 45 minutes every thursday afternoon for vocal coaching ( got an outstanding with ofsted for our choir but stilL!) can't teach the rest much in that time!

I'll be able to tell you all about it next week! I'm really looking forward to it.

I'm sort of in charge of thinking skills at my school and want to do this with Y6 to develop their higher-order thinking skills. At the moment we are still struggling with their lower-order thinking skills, but one must be optimistic!

I agree it probably is quite PSHE-ish and finding the time for it will be tricky. Being an independent school we have a slightly longer school day, so that helps fitting things in. At the moment one maths lesson a week is only half an hour and we also have a half hour logic lesson. The

is that from September we are going to combine them so that every other week they have an hours maths, and every other week they have an hours P4C.

Also on the thinking skills front, I have put in a request to buy a huge box of puzzle equipment, which I have crossed everything hoping I am allowed, cos they look brilliant, and would engage the less able children in problem solving activities. I'd quite enjoy playing with them too!!

Love puzzle stuff! Mensa do loads of stuff for kids, maybe worth a look at their website?

I would love to do a P4C lesson, well, a few in a row really so the kids get into the format etc. I think you can really see a difference quite quickly... when I had a class, I'd write a logic problem up on a board each week, and once they got used to them, they were so good!
