Default Had a terrible afternoon!!!!!

I seem to be in this naughty corner quite a lot recently!!

Today I had a very busy day being in two different schools. This morning I was with a lovely bunch of Year 5/6s and apart from the fact that it was wet play and I had to mark amongst 30 noisy children, it was fine.

Then this afternoon I went to a tough school (the one I've been in for the past few weeks with Year 2 - which I really enjoyed by the way) in the Reception.

All was ok, we had some choosing time then I took them into the hall for PE. After that was play - wet again! Arrrh!!! As I had not had time to rest for a sec. all day, my lovely TA brought a coffee through for me. Here is where the problems began...

While children were playing, I heard some readers. I had my coffee (in a small flask type thing for safety - ha!) in hand. The lid tasted like washing-up liquid, so I arrh, took it off..... OH DEAR....!!!

The next thing I know two children had grabbed a box on the table and knocked the coffee flying... all into the classes' reading t

I tried to rescue books as the class started to go wild (all that staying in all day!). There was a water fight by the water tray with water on the ceiling, sand everywhere and general chaos. After my half-hearted attempt at getting them to tidy up, the chn. decided to carry on playing. I was in too much of a tiss about the books to worry too much about the mess!

After school the class teacher came back, walked in the classroom, saw the state of the painting table and went "Arrrh!!

I wasn't supposed to walk in and see that was I?!"

I thought I would have to own up straight away so explained what had happened. She was very good about it, but I could see the panic in her eyes to begin with!

We tried to rescue some books (there are LOADS of them!), and it seemed a bit hopeless to begin with. I offered to pay for them (was not really thinking about how at that moment!) but she was on about speaking to the lit. co-ordinator to see how much was in the lit. buget! I felt absolutely terrible.

In the end I did manage to save most of the books although most are in a sorry state around the edges, but at least readable!

Oh, and the caretaker was annoyed at the state of the classroom, another TA was annoyed at having to stay and tidy up while I worried about the books.... terrible afternoon!!!

On the good side of it all, I was very, very appologetic. The head was fine about it, although I still felt awful. Apparently he has been "singing my praises" about my work in the Year 2 class!

ing too... I can just see all the kids running riot! Like, what's the film with Arnie in... he goes into the classroom and they just run riot..

Anyway... there's no real harm done, no kids were scolded, and I wouldn't feel bad about it at all... I bet the two kids' parents don't offer to pay for books like you did! 'Twas a real accident at the end of the day, and to boot, you weren't being paid as it was break time!

I'm so glad you've been asked back already, you might have felt more awkard if they hadn't given you more time...

Feel free to leave the naughty corner, I don't think it was your doings (and I don't want anything spilled in here thank you!

I did feel at the time that I should go into detention, but I think like you say, I can come out now!!
