C'belle, our schools (Cumbria LEA) have all had guidelines through on why they can't hold raffles anymore! The new Gambling Bill which came out early this year doesn't allow them. The school doesn't have a Gaming/Gambling license, so can't have them! I don't think I was even really allowed to do my little raffle thing! The law protects children, and there's a new criminal offence (Key Points from BBC: GAMBLING BILL 6. A new criminal offence of inviting, permitting or causing a child to gamble) against it.
There's an annual Easter Egg raffle at our school. One of the dinner ladies donates all the eggs, and the money goes towards books for the library. This year, she donated eggs anyway, but we had an egg decorating competition. It raised no money obviously, they had a sponsored spell instead!
