and would love to try a lot of the techniques if I were to have a permanant class but not so sure when I'm only going to be in the class for a day.

Wondering if anyone is familiar with this approach and if anyone has tried implementing any of the techniques as a substitute teacher?

Anyone interested in seeing what this approach is all about just google 'power teaching'

Thanks
Jo.

Hi, I did it, but only with kids who knew me, and in schools I worked in regularly where I knew they'd be happy whatever I did.

The kids loved it, the TAs loved it, I loved it, but it's knackering!!! The kids need 'training' a lot to do it properly, but a few things you can just pop into the lesson. It depends on the class / age / subject matter / what the teacher expects to be written in their books at the end of the lesson.

How long is a piece of string basically!

Well I gave it a go last week. From the moment I walked into the school I was warned this was a difficult class and I was their 3rd sub. teacher in 3 days. There was no work left and my first though was "why did I say I would work today" Decided I needed to try something structured and keep these busy. Did a 'power teaching' lesson on nouns, verbs and adjectives. Worked a treat. Also used the scoreboard with goldern time as the reward. Ended up having a good day, though did go home exhaused.
