Unhappy Mature NQT new to supply - advice please

Hello everyone, sorry this is a long one

I'm new to this site, teaching and supply so I feel quite vulnerable to say the least. I have joined three supply agencies, one is Catholic as that is my faith and I would like to have a full time post within a Catholic School eventually however I am becoming very disillusioned with teaching for the feedback from the two Catholic schools I taught in was that I lacked classroom presence

I had never had any problems on Teaching practices but I will be the first to admit that I am rusty as I have not taught since this time last year.
I am worried as the issue uncovered things within this agency that I am not happy with, the agency did not inform the schools that I am an NQT or that I am disabled (I only have partial hearing) as they thought it would be detrimental to my gaining work

. My confidence is low at the moment in any case, as I really needed to have a permanent job by now, (my husband left five years ago so I had to find a career to pay the mortgage etc, so I did an Access for a year and then a BA in Primary Ed with QTS for four) I thought gaining the degree, especially a 2:1, would give me that but it has not so I worry about money all the time.
Now the comment on Classroom presence has really worried me especially as the agency says it may be an issue to finding work too.

The Catholic agency think it is something to do with my height as I am only 4ft 10ins or my voice as it is quite high pitched but I know my presence in the classroom stems from my confidence, firstly I feel I need to be given more time to gain the experience in supply that I need and secondly I need the schools to be

to me as there are obvious things to be aware of The Catholic Supply agency has now agreed to let the schools know but they are not happy. Another supply agency I am with has had no negative feedback and say that it is law that schools are fully informed that I am an NQT and disabled especially as I cannot hear the school bell so would miss the fire alarm.

I feel that with a little understanding all the issues would disappear but would really appreciate your comments and advise as I am seriously thin

of changing career, I am so unhappy. If you have any strategies that will give me a greater classroom presence I would be very grateful too. The Catholic supply want to observe me, I have said that they can, hopefully it may help. At the moment I feel as if the last five years have been a waste of time

Supply is much harder than people realise and we were not given any advise at Uni in this direction. I find it very difficult to just kick into a lesson that I have not been involved in planning and if istructions are reeled off at a pace I cannot keep up with then I stand no chance. I do tell staff about my problem but they do not really appreciate what it really means.

Thanks everyone, sorry if this message jumps about abit

OK, Firstly schools cannot discrimate against you because you have a hearing impairment and the agency should be more than aware of the legalities behind this. Sorry to sound abrupt but this makes me

!!!

Do you have a hearing aid? Ask the staff to talk to you face on so that you can read their lips (even if you can't!) as this may emphasise your needs to them.
Much calmer now.... I have been trying for 3 years to get a permanant post and it has taken a lot of time and effort to get in with schools. Try ta

your CV round local schools and volunteer to work in your favourite for a day or so a week. You'll learn so much from being with experienced teachers and get an understanding of how those teachers project their presence, then try it out in your own supply work, you'll find something that suits your personality.
It is difficult teaching someone else's planning, I've had to follow some really bad plans! Talk to the TA if there is one she may understand her teacher's

s and help you out. Don't give up just yet, I was very despondent last year and nearly gave up but my luck changed and I've returned this year more detemined than ever.
Good Luck!

of doing some voluntary work as there is a school I would love to work, it is Catholic and is my local parish. I have actually spoken to the Head already and my local Priest said the feedback to him was that the Head really liked me so I'm sure he would be happy for me to help. Would I just offer as a TA so that I could observe the CT? I'm sure they will need help with Christmas coming up. Should I contact the school before ta

my CV along, do you suggest a meeting with the Head perhaps?

I am in school tomorrow but all I know is it is with KS2 so I am not happy, I like to know exactly what year I will be with. I do wear a hearing aid and I do need people to face me as they speak or I cannot hear them at all, it can be difficult when staff seem to be rushing around like headless chickens in the morning and it difficult to get them to slow down and explain things slowly so that I can have a chance of understanding the class needs but I will persevere.
