Default New to supply teaching...

Ok, let me start with few questions. I have been teaching for four years and have now decided to do some supply. What is going to happen to my pension? how do I still contribute?

I have registered with a Supply agency and so far they have been pretty useless...I am starting to panick for september as Ideally I wold like to work on long term assignements. I wil take the advice of going to the school directly and advertise myself....has any of you been in this situation of being completely lost and not knowing what to do?

Hi JOJO!

I just saw your post, been out tonight... and it's gone half past midnight, and I'm at a show from 7am til 6pm, but I will respond after!
Just to say:
We've all felt lost, and your pension should be fine!

Would you like me to check your covering letter, CV, supporting statement or application form?

Hi JOJO. I chose to pay in to my pension, and I know Nutty will advise you to get yourself smartened up and make yourself known to all the schools. Good luck and welcome to the site.

Hello again...

Like G'span says, you can opt to carry on paying into your pension, so it shouldn't be a problem. You should get paperwork through automatically without asking, but chase them if you don't hear soon after your first pay packet. You may even get the forms through soon if you've joined an agency.

Definitely get your CV up to date, write a covering letter, get all the addresses of schools in your area off the Council website, names of heads should be on there too. If you're not sure about the school/area, have a gander at their OFSTED report online too...

Call the schools the *second* week in September (I always think they could have enough on in the first week, what do others think???) and explain your experienced and would they be interested in receiving your CV with a view to future supply work. Say you'll post it, but hand deliver it, as you can smile nicely at everyone there, and also you get to see what it's like yourself (and where it is! GreatGrandDad takes a camera with him and takes a piccie of the school with sign outside as it'll have name, phone number and head on it too!)

Keep reading on here... there's tonnes of stuff, and any Qs, fire away, and more importantly... don't worry! Personally, I think supply is easier than full-time teaching!
