Default Applying for permanent jobs, help with supporting statement!

Hi

I am in the process of applying for permanent jobs and I am currently trying to update my supporting statement to include my supply work and the skills I have gained since doing supply. I am struggling though, any advice would be appreciated

Can you tell us which bit you're struggling with? Bit more info, how much supply you've done etc... there's a sample letter on here with a para about supply, this could help too!

Would you like me to check your covering letter, CV, supporting statement or application form?

I'm an NQT and did about 3 months day-to-day supply between April and July last year, then I took some time off working with children in a different capacity and now I have just returned to supply. I've worked across FS, KS1 and KS2 doing supply so I want to mention that I have experience across the key stages and about other skills I have gained by being a supply teacher, e.g. flexibility, dealing with the unknown, etc. Also, most of my supply has been in quite difficult inner city schools in Liverpool.

Where would I find the sample letter you mentionned on here? Thanks NuttySupplier!

Have a look at it (think it's in Contacting Schools), then come back and ask!! You've got loads to write about your experiences really... We can always read a para or two through for you too...

Default Need Help with Supporting Statement!

Hello,

I am in the middle of applying for some NQT positions. I have been doing some supply and working for a private institution and a science tutor.

Im not sure what sort of stuff to include about my day-to-day supply experiences in my supporting statement.

Any help will much appreciated.

It's quite difficult to tell you what to include about your supply teaching experiences, when we weren't there! However, you should think about highlighting your qualities... You will no doubt have learned much about yourself during your supply work: how you maintain professionalism, how quickly you can adapt to any given situation, etc., etc. Being on supply enables you to 'come up with', very easily, evidence of your own reflective learning and examples of how you have managed potentially tricky situations.
