Default Catholic school

Can I apply to Catholic schools although I am not catholic? Would they ask me questions about the religion if I had an interview?

Thanks in advance!

I came across loads of questions that a collegue had been asked in a similar situation and it was very much geared towards the religion (apologies as I cannot locate them at the moment-if I find them I will let you know exactly what she was asked at the interview).

Others on here may have more too add to this???

I found this, it may be useful:

  • What

e you apply for this school?
  • Can you tell us about yourself, your qualities and how you could use these in the classroom?
  • How would you involve the church in the school?
  • How would you say catholicism has affected your life and how will it help you as a teacher?
  • How would you support children in the catholic faith?
  • How are you involved in your parish?
  • How would you deal with an attention seeking child in your class?
  • What would you do if a parent came to you saying their child wasn't being stretched ennough by your lessons?
  • How would you ensure all children's needs in your class are being met?
  • How would you assess children's needs?
This isn't the one that I referred to but it may be useful.

In answer to the basic question, yes you can apply, but you may not be offered a post if you're not a practising Catholic. Basically, as a religious school, they can state they have a preference for employing a teacher of the Catholic faith - although not all schools will choose to do this.

Hope this helps and good luck - BTW any news on the other post?

I had an interview at a Catholic school once - they didn't question me about my faith exactly, but there were some targeted questions during the interview. I'm not Catholic either and I didn't get the job.

I honestly do think that you should apply, if nothing happens at least you can put it down to experience, if you have an

I worked in two Roman Catholic schools as a full time teacher and I'm not a Roman Catholic. Although they may give preference to practising RCs they may choose a non RC if they think you're the strongest canditate (or if you're cheapest & they're having to watch their budget).

I think it's different from school to school. There is a vacancy in my area for a Catholic school, and I am also in two minds as to whether I should apply or not.
I do not have a faith reference, for starters!

I'd phone the school and ask. Some schools are really strict on only accepting applications from practicing Catholics, whilst others are looking for good teachers who're happy to fit in with the ethos of the school.

I'm not RC and have worked in a RC school. I was asked a few questions at the interview related to teaching RE etc and about my views on the RC faith.

I loved the school, one of the nicest I have worked in.
