2nd interview!

I have an interview next friday with a mixed yr 1-reception class and I need to teach a numeracy OMS. It is only 10 mins long with half of the class but I wondered if anyone could help me.

It needs to be interactive and consider the ISP targets which are;

must- be able to count the number 1-9 out aloud.

should-position 0-20 on a numberline.

could- I can position 2 digit numbers on a numberline.

My lesson does not have to be working on the targets, they are just to help me differentiate.

Ok, thinking of number activities in my reception class (PPA cover) there is set up 10 green bottles, 10 in a bed (teddies) 10 frogs on lily pads on a white board which can hop from one to the other and the kids have to make sure they're all on the right spot, a

with numbers on, plastic glitter numbers in the water, wooden numbers in the sand (replaced with letters when we're focusing on Lit), a number jigsaw, playdough - the kids have to make the shapes, never can tell what it is, but they have to tell you!, er, counting equipment like those different sized/

alive song every so often, ... I'm sure there's more, but can't think of any right now... a Bob the Builder / Pirates activity where they have to put numbered tools / treasures in the back of the van / in the treasure chest / on the ship in order?

s. What are the Y1s like? Are they lower ability and still working to the ELGs? If not you will have to link their learning to the framework etc for the learning objectives. It sounds like they really want a lesson intro so interactive counting songs are always good.

Thank you so much for your advice?!? Teaching reception and year 1 in a mixed class how can you mix the EY and key stage 1 curriculum. The year 1 are a mixed ability and the reception are mixed too! Its quite difficult!

I think the answer is having a good TA! I would have some whole class teaching time before moving the Reception children to adult initiated activities with the TA and extending the Y1 learning, then give the Y1s supported learning whilst the Reception children have child initiated activities, especially outside. Swapping from time to time/day to day with the TA. That's what I propose to do next term and I believe that the current teacher is already doing.I dare say there are other/better ways of doing it!
