Nic... how about soil instead of sand? I know I find loads of [broken] stuff in my garden from that period.

Take one of those little dustbusters if you can just in case! Think carefully about classroom management... a great opportunity to show control of the class... mucky hands, excited creeping fingers, lay the rules down and make sure the kids stick to them.

And congratulations on getting the interview!!

, make sure you teach them techniques for archaelogical digging, show pictures/video's of how to do it and get them to do it trying to use real techniques. Also, teach them about how they'll know its victorian- what victorian style pots etc looked like, characteristics of them... so you could put something Roman in or something as a 'red herring' and see if they realise that it's not Victorian- You'll need to make sure you have some real history objectives in there from the NC, and not just digging for stuff.. if you see what I mean, they have to be learning something about history by doing it. Oh, and I agree with Nutty about classroom management, tell them exactly what you expect of them- is it the whole class? If it is then they might get pretty noisy so you might want to use the clap back technique or something with them so they know when you want their attention.

y of your lesson plan you give them at least... and in an hour, you can easily gauge the kids, and will probably be able to throw in some diff. for some of the bless 'ems / G & T anyway...

In my last interview lesson, I had to teach Literacy, and I didn't know who was of what ability, so when it came to the independant tasks I said I wanted them to work in pairs, but with someone who they do not normally sit on a table with for Literacy (hoping they were in ability groups) so I knew my lower ability would be supported a bit, seen as I wouldn't know who they were.
