maternity leave contract for next term?

Hi All,
I've been doing supply since Sept 07 and it's been going well...however I really would like a contract for next term (e.g. maternity cover) and then something more permanent for Sept (wouldn't we all?!!)

When would the latest date be for posting maternity cover for next term/
am I likely to get anything now if I haven't yet found anything?

I'm working in Gloucestershire and there's been pretty much NOTHING advertised!!

Hello!

In my experience, you're not as likely to see maternity covers advertised as get offered them in schools who book you regularly.

I'm afraid as it's such a short term, I'd be inclined to think that there'd be no chance of getting a cover now for next term, but this forum has proved me wrong so many times fortunately!

Other than maternity though, I'm pretty certain that the 'closing date' for resignations at Easter isn't for another 3 weeks yet, so

I think there still may be a chance - Nutty is right in that resignations don't have to be in till half term, so things could still come up. In terms of maternity leaves - they normally come up earlier - as the teacher normally knows by now! But there are other reasons short term contracts arise, and they don't always go to 'known' people, in my LEA, all posts of at least a term have to be advertised (even if then they do go to someone known!)
Are you with an agency? Do they know you want something longer term, they might get long term sick leaves come in, and I found I really had to push, say i was going to leave, if i couldn't find something as I couldn't survive on the money etc etc - then i got 2 offers of longer term work! Just really make it known that's what you want.

Thanks for the replies... yes I am with 2 agencies and I am also in regular direct contact with some schools. The agencies know that I'm looking for something more permanent- but I turned down a 3 day a week deal from one school for this term as they would have still paid me a supply rate... which if I'm honest didn't seem like a good deal to me (lots more work for the same amount of money...)

Keep looking because you never know. I interviewed for a Maternity Cover last summer beginning of April and started end of April. Good Luck!
