Numeracy, using lots of models and images (pictures to you and me!) Pick a festive theme, do problem solving, model with a simple example, and make sure they have lots of time for quality discussion with talk partners....

That's what Cumbria is looking for at the moment anyway!

does it take to pull a sleigh..? type problem? For every 6 presents, Santa needs 4 sacks, how many sacks for a school with 200 children? Change the numbers but concentrate on 6 x table or 4 x table in starter to begin with, giving the children the vocab. they will need later on for the discussion...

s thanks so much. I know, really close to Christmas but the job advert says its for sickness cover, possibly until the end of the year so they must need someone asap. I'm a bit gutted that it isn't all on one day as it's teaching on Wednesday and then interview on Friday which is a bit of a nightmare cos that means I have to count those 2 days out for work. But

Or get them to work out how many presents the person received in the 12 days of Christmas?
Or in Lit use that as a template for them to write a modern version?

If anyone's about could they give me some advice. I'm trying to sort out tomorrow's lesson. I was thinking of either going with Nutty's advice for problem solving - Christmas themed. Or literacy, christmas haiku poems (did haiku with a class on supplya little while ago and they loved it) or going with the 12 days of christmas re-write. What do you reckon.
