This time last year I was averaging a good 3 days a week, just a nice amount.. this year, I have been called 4 times!

Fortunately, I have a temp. -part-time post, so that's got me through this term, but I don't know about next term...

Also, am hearing stories from others about TAs getting full weeks in classes... surely there's a maximum amount of time they can spend in there without getting a teacher in?

Are there any parents out there? How do you feel about your child being taught by a TA/CS?

Me too! I was good enough to be asked in regularly two or more days a week for the last three years, but now I discover that our local primary school is using HLTAs to cover staff sickness for up to three days at a time. I will have found an alternative career by the time the parents wake up to what is happening. These are all good people being left in charge, but what is happening to our profession? I have been asked in twice since September at this particular school, but who wants to be used only when a Head is desperate? Sorry, the reason I cost more is because I am good at what I do, and that only comes with professional training and a lot of classroom experience and hard work! There, I feel slightly better now having vented my spleen.

I know what you mean, I have found this too, and am always torn between needing the money and my pride!

Hi Pudsey,

Spleen well vented! I just tend to go off on one and rant for hours, but you've said it all in a perfect paragraph!

I feel it's even worse if they're covering sickness, the lessons are less likely to have been planned with them in mind than if the teacher knew they were on a course. At least if it's PPA cover/premeditated cover, then the lesson can be planned acordingly, needing little input from the TA etc.

This sort of practice is why we place our child in an independent school: which in turn is why I need to work as supply.
