Default setting up working for yourself?

Hi, I'm just starting out in supply and am currently with an agency (today first day and didn't get a call though) but have jsut been reading your posts about contacting schools directly. I have thought about this, but don't know about sorting out the NI and TAX, do I have to tell some sort of powers that be before, or when? WHen do I fill out forms (there must be some!!) and where?
I intend on only doing supply for the summer term so someone vaguely said I probably won't even get to the threshold for tax etc?
Help, I'd much prefer working in schools that I vaguely knew rather than unknowns.
THank you.

(hope the weather gets better, it's very dull and grey here - not inspiring!)

If you contact schools directly, they'll pay you through their LEA, or their LEA's pay

services (ours is out-sourced to Capita). You don't need to do anything, they'll sort it out! You'll get net pay.

The threshold for 'normal' people this year is a little under £5000 in the year April 06 - April 07. This changes if you're retirement age/under 16 etc.

I've been on the beach twice already today... with my frisbees and

s! Not a cloud in sight (well, it's muggy, and the sky isn't exactly blue, it's grey, so I guess that would be just the one big cloud then?!)

thank you nutty, I will get those letters off then, that sounds a very civilised way of doing things! Certainly looks like a better option than waiting for the agency.
I know what oyu mean about the one big grey cloud, though the sun did attempt an appearance about lunchtime!! Doing well for beach though - haven't done that yet, not even for a blustery walk!

Ah!! can see now Clarabelle!!

No supply again today, so went in again to my friend's school, into reception again and I do love it. (i'm ks1 trained and experience) so will def. be trying to get a job there.
Just wish I could get paid for helping out! Am going to spend time tomorrow ringing schools to see if them want my details independently of the agency.

Even if I had been near the beach today, wouldn't have been able to see it as everywhere is swathed in thick fog!! Where's the sun!
