I know I'm one of the few who do not have to work due to being retired but I've done 1 1/2 days this week which is plenty. I could have done 4 though! The strange thing is that they are all from the same agency. My other agency has not contacted me at all for some reason. Can it be that agencies have their 'favourites' and offer them work first? If that is true, then how on earth do NQT's manage?

I've only managed 10 days so far since September. This is the worst start to a year I've known. Agencies I've spoken to today are expecting the flu bugs to start kicking in any time now.

The 2 agencies I've got most of my work through seem to be only getting me into 2 schools (1 each). I hope they are not holding out on me for these 2 schools and not sending me elsewhere incase I'm needed there.
They say some of the schools they did have on their books are either using NQT's (cheaper) or other agencies.

I agree, Pete, it's VERY slow starting this term. I've had 8 days so far, & have just got a booking for 7 days starting the middle of next week.

I'm also only being sent to two schools at the moment so you could be right about them keeping us in reserve. But surely they'd want us all working any day we can, it's in their interest as much as ours that we work as much as possible..

The agency keeps saying work is starting to pick up, & I certainly hope so. Good luck to you, & to anyone else waiting at home for the phone to ring!

I got my first call from my agency last week but it was sod's law that my son had an accident so I couldn't work and had to instead take him for medical treatment (I only have childcare one day a week so that was that for the week).

I am however pleased to report that I followed the advice on this site and rang up my local school who invited me for a visit to meet the deputy head and I now have some days pre-booked

and am being registered with the LEA. So thanks for all of the great advice given on here as it gave me the confidence to be pro-active.

Now I just have to do a good job which I am a tad nervous about as it is two years since I was last in front of a class...is it just like riding a bike? Will everything come flooding back? Why is it I feel so nervous when I have been teaching for years? I have already bought 6 new books like I have no clue what I am doing (and therefore already spending a day's wages before I have even earnt anything). Is this normal behaviour or am I just neurotic?

Great news Owl25- not about your son's accident (hope he's ok!) - well done for getting pre-booked work direct.

I'm sure you'll be fine once you're actually back in the classroom - the first day's a bit weird but then it just feels 'normal'!!
