Default First Timer

Hi,

I am supply teaching a year 4 class this week (just starting with an afternoon). I am a NQT and this will be a first. Work has been left for me but just wondering what are you expected to take with you.

I can take resources with me but struggling to know what would be most useful - as an NQT I don't have lots and can't take everything I have!

Also what do you take when work isn't left for you. Obviously, you don't know where the class are up to (in terms of maths units etc.). So do you just take a day of general lesson plans?

Sorry, I'm new and a bit

Hi
Rather than take lots of resources with you (although maybe you could take a favourite book to read at the end of the day?), I would take some

What will you do if the class finish the work earlier than expected?

You could ask them to do some quiet reading/drawing etc or maybe you could organise a class quiz/ teach them a favourite song/ run a 'Working with others' session etc etc

Thanks for the reply and advice.

I think I'll be OK if work is set and can use my own resources for short time fillers.

I think I'd probably be more confident with KS1. I'm teaching a Yr 6 class for an afternoon next week and have been told to bring my own work. I've not taught that end of KS2 - any

They didn't say - just to bring work! Why is that not normal?

I don't want to do maths or literacy, as they do those in the morning.

Just a bit lazy, especially if it's the first time you've been there!

I would probably do a fun (but not too messy!) art/dt session; for example...
- create a board game like

s and ladders (based on class topic?), thinking about start, finish, forfeits, rules, instructions...
- designing their own family coat of arms (4 sections to show hobbies, pets, interests etc)
