Hey wanted to pick the brains of some long-time supply teachers.

I am a primary nqt who, after much struggling, has managed to secure a teaching job that

ts in jan. I need to move for the job (am currently living with the parents) so need to be earning money in preparation for that.

I signed with a supply agency in sept but havent got work through them yet- i have only been offered work three times and each time i wasn't available- mainly because i dont drive and rely on others for lifts but they always ring so late in the morning! I have also circulated a cv and letter to all my local schools offering supply work but have only got one days work from that (which was hellish- one child threw a chair across the classroom!).

I have now

ted to look for temporary jobs in retail and things like that to tide me over til jan but am worried that this will mean i am less confident in jan as i wont have taught for so long!

Should i stay with the agency (i cant offered to sign with more than one) even though it means i wake in a panic at 7am every morning waiting for the phone to ring, or should i just concetrate on my jan job and earning money for the move?

Id really appreciate any advice!

I'd explain the fact that you don't drive, so rely on public transport so would prefer pre-booked work to on the day stuff.

If on the day stuff does get offered to you, explain that you wont be there at 8.30, but could be there for 9.20/9.30. Most schools will have some kind of morning worship and can usually find a TA or the Head to cover for a short while. In my experience - and I use public transport too - if you're up front about it, most schools are fine as long as you're honest.

Have some filler activities that you can use just while you get a grip on what needs to be taught on the day and don't worry if you can't cover all the lessons, just focus on numeracy, literacy and science.

Also, contact all the schools again - your details just need to land on the right desk at the right time.

Take care
