Default new to supply work in nottingham area and some questions

I have just qualified and an thinking about supply as it is doubtful if I will find a full time job at this late stage

can any one recommed an agency in this area?

How do I prepare for a supply day of work in terms of getting resources?

I have just qualified and am nervous about behaviour management having just watched supply teachers walk out due to bad behaviour during my training

if i dont look at the supply route -when do teaching jobs appear again?

Sorry for all the questions

Hi Marie, welcome to the forum...

In theroy, you shouldn't have to prepare for supply, there should always be work for you... even if the teacher calls in sick that day, their own planning should be somewhere in school, and the curriculum manager should be able to point you in the right direction...

However! In reality, you sometimes get post-its saying 'do whatever you want', or 'Literacy, then Numeracy, then History (we're doing Vikings), then art (pastels).'

Jobs will generally start appearing just before the end of each holiday, you're really looking at maternity leave covers starting Oct half term if you haven't a job for September starting.

Good luck! Oh, and 6 years supply, teaching before you were born, and I've never seen a supply teacher walk out due to behaviour... it's not that bad!!

Hi Marie and welcome

Like Nutty said-supply is not that bad (honest), I've been a supply teacher for 15 months and it has been a good experience, you learn so much.

Being prepared for the unknown is they key to confidence I reckon. I have taken a thin file with worksheets for each year group, website addresses. A memory stick is just as good (but you can't always get into certain sites). You could even just load the worksheets on to your memory stick but I used to have them ready to

y just incase I needed a filler as I worked through the planning.A few books that will do certain years and there is always the possibility of scheduling your lessons around a book-literacy, art etc etc.

Mostly there has been planning available, sometimes I have been asked to plan, if the teachers knew me. Most classes are great, you do come across those difficult ones but remain consistent in your approach (always). Find out as much info as possible about the children and anything that you can use (if needed), it could be a forthcoming trip or treat to bribe them with.

Have a good look around the site, there is loads on here to help you on your way, all of us were nervous before starting-it's perfectly normal. You've earned the right to teach so enjoy the summer, browse away on the site and keep posting.
