by my decision NOT to apply for anything again, but then, as I've said before, I can because my NQT year is over. I've been at 2 lovely schools this week, and am pulling in just about enough work. Frustrating for you guys though, and I really feel for you both, it's so hard.

I do have a morning a week coming up for a few weeks - something to do with family learning, I need to get in touch with the school tomorrow.

As far as references are concerned, Wendy, mine aren't very up to date, and I don't think they fully reflect my current teaching performance, but they are the best I've got. I'm hoping I'll get a long term, and then I might get a more up to date reference! It sounds to me like in both cases they were loo

Audrey, did you talk abou AfL and APP? To be honest, they are the big focus in assessment at the moment. Though its disappointing not to be appointed, might be worth doing some supply there... you never know, stranger things have happened!
Good luck with meeting the DH at the other school.

Wendy, did I miss a post about your second referee? What is the story?

Don't be too down, I know a teacher who last year was also close to needing an extension for her NQT Year, she's almost finished it now though.

Definitely things happen for a reason, even if you can't see it at the time and its rubbish, so keep going!

Last October I asked the head of my second supply school if the school would give me a reference. Ihad been wor

regularly there since June. He said no problem. Then in November I was covering his teaching time and had just taken the spelling tests that he gave me and we never saw him again! An acting head was bought in from another school and I carried on doing supply for them. When I needed a reference for the other school I worked at I rang the school, explained the situation and asked if the school, or the deputy who I had covered for frequently, would provide a reference. There was a short pow wow and the answer came back that as this was an agreement with the previous head it would be against protocol for the school to provide me with a reference! So now I have one referee what can I do? I asked the head at my last interview if she would consider giving me supply work but apparently she has 2 brilliant HLTAs, who really ought to be teachers they're so good, so she doesn't need supply! Ho hum, still the weather has been lovely today so I took the

Sorry to hear that.

If you were doing regular supply there I can't see why they couldn't write a reference for you, I can't see what 'protocol' has got to do with it.

You work there - irrelevant of who employed you.

Sounds a bit like you have been caught in the crossfire bewteen the school and the original Head for whatever reason!

Wendy my advice to you is to keep going as it all tends to change so quickly, enjoy your time with your chn and then continue with a real vigour.

Here is my latest update: This all happened to me on Friday when I was still with the nursery class at a school that has been giving me quite a lot of supply since marketing myself:
1) I have an interview (another one gosh) for a yr 2 class next monday. I need to prepare a 20 min lesson on a story or circle time or something else-any

s? It is a school that works towards creative learning. I thought of the story: A huge bag of worries (chn always worry) and sharing this with a puppet and passing it around the circle for them to each share 1 worry each? Although I'm not a whizz with puppets they can be great for chn to respond to.

2) The DH that contacted me the other night with a view of a position was at the school that I've been wor

for info on me-apparently she was given lots of positives. I've had to re-schedule our meeting due to the interview and she was not overly keen that I have an interview but wished me luck and said their gain if successful would be their loss!

3) The school that I am currently doing supply in have 2 posts coming up and they would very much like me to apply!!! As they like the way that I handle their chn (difficult school to say the least although supportive).

So keep going Wendy it will happen, it may even happen for me who knows eh? Any useful advice re interview would be appreciated.

at the school (happened to me a few weeks ago).

I have my interview on monday and am tying myself up in knots about the 20 min lesson arghhhhh. I am doing circle time with a puppet and have a decent lesson ( I reckon) which will obviously cover pshe, literacy and geography re the puppet. I know exactly what I'm doing but with the interview as well, I am getting a bit nervous to say the least.
