Default Letters to Schools

Like so many of you, I have written a letter to the Schools in my local area detailing my desire to work for them whenever supply work is available.

I mailed all my letters (I took many hours of stamp lic

and letter folding I assure you!)

I see that some people hand deliver their letters, have people found different response levels from mailing or delivering their letters?

Is the personal touch appreciated by the schools, or can it be seen as a nuisance, and the school would just rather deal with a bit of paper than a person?

Also how common is it for Supply teachers to give their details directly to schools in this fashion?

Do NQT's often get in there first by sending letters so they are waiting for the Head on the first day of term?

Do schools keep this information and then try to use just a handful of people for their school?

Thanks again for all your help... this site is packed with great advice, I only wish I found it earlier!

Katrina.

I hand delivered to one town, mailed to the other, and have never heard from any school I mailed!

The way I see it, schools get a lot of mail each morning, mine had 2 bundles today with at least 30 envelopes/magazines in each. Your bit of paper, unless they're desperate, will get lost/thrown/dismissed/put to one side to look at when they are desperate. In only 2 out of 16/17 schools did I feel a bit of a nuisance hand-delivering. You won't get passed the reception desk in most schools anyway, but it's enough to make an impression!

Where I live/work I'd say a good 80% do it this way.

Anyone can do that, not just NQTs, but I doubt, again unless they're desperate, many HTs will be loo

's even on the entrance notice board I'm that regular! They don't want the kids to have 16 supply teachers in a term and get to know people, how they work, and the supply teachers get to know how the school operates - win/win situation.
