Default More than one supply agency??

Hi there,
After 3 years in a full term permanant post,
To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.
e a big decision to do supply as a career break starting Sept. I want as much work as possible and therefore, I was wondering... if I am employed by 2 supply agencies, is it classed as 2 employments even though it's the same occupation?
In other words... will I be taxed more for the 2nd employment? Not sure how it works.

Thanks in advance for any advice!
Liz :-)

Thanks Footie... hi Liz! At the end of the day, you'll only be taxed on what you've earned, though if you're taxed incorrectly at the beginning of the year, you may have to contact your tax office to review it, and they may not do that til the end of the tax year.

Sometimes you can nominate a supply agency as your main one... they will ensure the first £5000 or so of your earnings is not taxed, while the other agencies will tax everything you earn. If you cannot do this, and are taxed on everything from the beginning, then you will be able to claim the extra back in April 09. However, if you've a teaching contract until the end of August, you may have earned more than your tax-free allowance by the time September comes anyway.

And good luck with the change of career!

Hi Liz and welcome to the forum. I'm currently registered with 2 agencies and it's pretty much as Nutty said. With one of my agencies I gave them my P45 and my tax allowance is with them, I tend to get most work from them anyway so that works out pretty well. When I work for the other agency my tax code is BR so I don't get any tax free allowance.

I recently spoke to Inland Revenue about splitting the tax code and they said that it really wouldn't be worth it and that at the end of the tax year I could contact them and get them to calculate tax to ensure it's correct and then send in P60's and they would pay back any tax which is oweing. I think if the agency work you get is an even split then it would be worth splitting your tax code but otherwise they said not to worry about it. I'd say just give one agency your P45, fill out a P46 for the other and if you find you get more work from one or the other, ask the IR to swap your tax allowance over. Hope that helps.
