I've been hearing a lot lately, from supply teachers and recruitment agencies, about the use of 'ghost jobs'. This terms has a few meanings, but one is illustrated simply by: supply teachers have been going for jobs advertised on websites that simply don't exist! To be fair, sometimes they have existed, but the agencies may pay for an advert for a month, and by the time you've contacted them about it, it's gone. It's a shame on both sides of the fence, the agencies pay a lot to advertise, and the supply teacher feels let down! Other times, it is a 'generic' job that they have paid to advertise, they may not have that specific one, but many like it... and it's cheaper to advertise one than many...
