Since I have been on supply, I have only had one day where I have had any work left for me!

I have two days supply booked this week. Day one is for a Y6 class, where half are going on a trip for the day, and I have the other half. On day two I have a half of a Y5 class and half of a Y6, as the other halves of both classes are going on a trip. I have been told to 'do my own thing' on both days. The trouble is I am getting fed up of 'doing my own thing', and am terribly lacking in inspiration! Grrrrrrr (sorry feeling really wingey tonight)

Does anyone have any fantastic activities/

Hi Wobblewibble and welcome to the forum

I am disgusted that you have had little planning left for when you are covering people. I have had the odd time and this is usually when they are sick or they want me to plan but this only usually happens if they have contacted me or spoken to me in the school! I find it useful occasionally. However what is happening to you is out of order, surely their PPA time is sufficient to plan in order that you don't have to.

As for you covering a mix of yr 5/6-I personally would base the lesson or day around a book. Obviously you will need to do maths but what has worked for me (thanks to Nutty for this

s about what they thought happened next. Then we did some hot seating ( I chose the child in the class who was a real character and he played the part of the boy in the story-he was brilliant. The class questioned him effectively. After that they wrote a diary account of the child: a day in the life of etc. During the afternoon they were put into groups (this also involved them taking responsibilty for who will do which job) they also researched homelessness before making a poster. It covered PSHE, literacy, geography and was soooo enjoyable (especially if you have interesting characters).

Hope this helps and good luck. When schools/agencies contact you ask whether planning will be left

. Unfortunately I don't have that book, but have just ordered it from Amazon, so will hopefully be able to use it another time. So for this week, I have decided to use 'The Fib', as I adore that story and am going to do some activities around that.star

I have lived in Scotland for nearly a year now and the education system is completely different to England. It is more laid back for one thing, but there are no supply agencies up here and head teachers contact you themselves. When I ask if there will be any work it is always 'do your own thing'

. Planning is totally different here too, I feel as though I am in a foreign country at times!

Hi Wobblewibble how did your lessons go? Hope they went well, I often base lessons around stories when I am planning etc. there are so many good books out there that you could do much the same things with. Hope all went well for you. I also often do circle time in order to get to know the chn or if they've behaved particulary bad. I often give them scenarios to work through: What would you do if a new child started school, how would you make them feel welcome? If a friend of yours stole something and told you, what would you do etc etc. Even to start the day off: If you were an animal what animal would you be? If you found out that someone was being bullied how would you react? There are loads and depending on the year group and behaviour you would have to take that all into account. I'll stop waffling on now and get on with something I need to do
