Default Afternoon with Reception some activities needed please

I have an afternoon with reception tomorrow it's prebooked so I am expecting there to be work left however if there isn't does any one have any quick activities I can do. I have some story books to take in and I have been told I should allow for choosing time is there anything else. I am ks1 and ks2 trained so this is a new thing for me and I would like to do well so I get called back to the school.

Thank you in advance. I am searching the net too

Hi, an afternoon with reception pretty much means choosing time and a story to me!

Guided choosing maybe... have a tricky word of the day - the maybe, and if they're in the sand, they have to write a the in the sand/water/build a letter in it out of construction kits etc./paint one, write one in the writing corner, make one in the cut and glue area...

Take a group at a time (4 kids maybe) to practice writing it on a whiteboard with you.
Sing!!!! Use SingUp.orgs advanced search for Reception songs...

Good luck!

of Nutty's. Extend activity with you by asking them to say tricky word in a sentence - e.g. tricky word is 'said', child thinks of a sentence with that word in. You might even just want to focus on a particular sound - I suspect the clues will be there when you arrive.

I wouldn't worry too much, though, an afternoon in Reception usually pretty much plans itself! A good early years setting will have structured opportunities for the children to self select activities and,

lly, have free access outdoors (you might think about using the snow as a learning experience if that's possible). I usually get involved with the children, helping them structure free play (lots of open questions and guidance, perhaps eliciting certain vocab, e.g. if they're building, tall, big, bigger, tallest etc. If there is an element of free choice make sure there are a variety of activities (jigsaws, construction, threading, sand, water etc). Enjoy and good luck!
