Hi All,

Just wanted to say hello. I'm also new to supply, and have just moved to England after finishing probation year in Scotland. Hoping supply will get me a foot in doors on way to permanent work and give me a flavour of the English system. A bit nervous like everyone else, just trying to gather as many adaptable resources as possible and dreading the 8am phone call to tell me I've got to be somewhere asap, while also hoping that the work comes soon to improve the state of the bank balance.

Cheers,
Donna

I am about to begin work in North London as a Cover Supervisor. Before you all shout me down (as I know many people have issues with Cover Supervisor and understandably so) I am doing it for a year before I can do my training to become a teacher because I had to postpone my PGCE due to financial reasons. I felt that being a Cover Supervisor would be a great chance to learn and enhance the skills needed to eventually become a good teacher.

But I've not had any training. I only know what I know through my own experiences volunteering in schools (which I have done a lot) and through reading books. But I'd like to talk to some experienced supply and cover supervisors. I'd like to develop those skills that help in the job. If anyone can advise me, please do.

Thanks

Hi, I am an NQT and have just joined a supply agency. I have no idea what to expect and am dreading my first day! What im most nervous about is not being prepared enough, or not being able to interpret the work left for the class properly. :( I know everyone feels like this and im sure it will get easier after a few times!

Back to school tomorrow for a first aid course. Planning is done, my bag still needs tidying out but the book box is clear (long may it stay so!!!). I will be curious to know if the bid for academy status has been successful. Things could be getting a little scary.

Supply Teaching: How Many Agencies?

Hello there... Im a NQT after completing a GTP in a local school. Didnt manage to get an ICT teaching job in the end of term interviews etc so I have registered with two agencies.

My question is - how many agencies should I register with. Both the agencies that I have registered with (obviously) have stated that I should only deal with one agency.

Any help or advice for me please?

Hello all,

Crikey.

I'm an NQT (Secondary Music) as of June this year. About to start applying to supply agencies (North London) as of this weekend. All I need to know is everything .........

How many to apply to?
How much work to expect?
Who to apply to?
Would an agency tell me to sling my hook if I was only prepared to travel 4 or 5 miles? (those that I've spoken to have given pretty vague answers).
Is it worth going to schools direct - approaching my placement schools etc?
etc.
etc.

Couldn't be more vague I know - but any and all advice welcome....

Thanks

Hello everyone,

I'm a NQT and I have signed up with an agency to do supply from September.

Although I feel excited that I am finally putting all that training and hard work in practice, I feel quite anxious about the whole thing and have a lot of worries and concerns over behaviour management and planning.

Did anyone else feel like this before they embarked on supply work?

Also, any survival hints and tips would be greatly appreciated!

Best wishes to all, hope you are having a good holiday!
