Ideas!?
To get children to stay on task I give them a time limit to do each activity and explain exactly what I expect from them in that time. If tables are being chatty I draw a Noise Meter on the board (smiley face at bottom, To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. face at the top). I move an arrow up the meter as the children get louder. I find they enjoy quieting down just to see me move the meter down. If it reaches the top, the whole class has to stay in silence for ...... mins (your choice).
I sometimes (with littleuns), appoint a noise police on each table to be in charge of keeping noise level down and I reward quiet on-task tables with points.
