Stick to your pinciples. Children will be quiet if you are quiet. It might suit them to be noisy and to make you noisy, but they have to learn. Admittedly you have to raise your voice to be heard over a noisy class, but remind them that you should be able to SPEAK to them and keep reinforcing this point. Some children are unreasonable and will not co-operate, on top of this the school may be unsupportive, but you have at least tried. Remember - what does not work in a few schools, may work in many others. End of sermon!
