Wanted to ask you A1chemist. Am thinking of applying for an HLTA post in a secondary school. My reasons are that I want to keep working with children but applying for primary posts is so disheartening, never even getting so much as an interview. I'm also finding being back on supply after a year with my own class really hard. I miss the feeling of having colleagues to rely on, and I miss knowing the children and their parents. i'm also hating the uncertainty of when I'll work and how much money i'm going to have.
The only thing that is worrying me about the job potentially is behaviour management. Obviously i can say about having experience of the curriculum and being able to teach and assess etc but behaviour management of older children is something different to primary. What sort of strategies do you use with children that I could perhaps use if an interview came about?
