My other favourite is to get them to draw a picture of their bedroom/school/classroom/town/house/street as it is now. Then to draw the same place but showing how it would look;
Before and after the industrial revolution.
Before and after a war.
If they converted to Judaism/Islam/Christianity/Rastafarianism etc.
If aliens took over.
If there was an earthquake.
Or something else to fit the subject. If there is time I get some of them to explain their drawings to the rest of the class, or write about them if they finish quickly.
